Hey There, Neighbor!

Did you Discover a Door Tag on Your Door?

Consider yourself lucky – it means your collection service is about to get even better!

The next question is likely,

What Does the Door Tag Mean?

First things first – finding this door tag just means we’re keeping you informed. Think of it more like a little “trash tip” from your Valet Living team. We’re the folks who make “trash day” practically disappear! Forget walks to the dumpster dragging an ugly bag of trash. You just place your trash bag in your trash can outside your door and we make it vanish in the night.

Don’t worry – Valet Living team isn’t trash talking, we’re really here to help you.

So, Why Did This Door Tag Find its Way to Me?

The tag with the wave, stuck on your front door, is our way of saying, “We stopped by, but hit a little speed bump with your collection,” and we wanted to let you know so we can make the next pickup smoother for both you and your Service Valet, who’s doing the heavy lifting.

We’re just letting you know how you can help us make your next pickup smoother, for both you and the Service Valet.

We’re On Your Side!

We’re not the trash police – we just want to make your life a little easier with one less stinky task. When something prevents us from picking up your bags or easily transporting them to the dumpster, this door tag just helps us keep you in the loop on how you can help make pickup more manageable for your Service Valet rock stars.

What Does My Check Mark, Mean?!

I could not collect these items because of

Oversized/Overweight objects are ripping bag

While your Service Valet is a little bit of a Superhero, they still don’t have super-human strength. They also don’t want to create a mess in your community. If the bag is starting to rip because of oversized or overweight items, they can’t safely transport it to the dumpster.

Please help us help you by not overloading a bag to the point where it may rip in transport. This will allow us to collect your bags in the future.

Safety concerns (sharp objects, etc.)

As you can imagine, sharp or dangerous objects like broken glass, needles, or other pointy items can not only rip a trash bag, but they can also injure your Service Valet – or even a passing neighbor or pet. While our Service Valets wear puncture-proof gloves, they are not totally covered in armor, so are unable to transport dangerous items to the dumpster.

Please help us help you by not putting sharp or dangerous items into your trash bag, so we can collect your bags in the future.

Check your local regulations for disposing of needles, broken glass, toxic substances or other dangerous items.

I did collect your bag that was left on the ground

It will help me if you put your bag in your can

No one wants to see leaks or stains on the floor – and especially not in front of your front door! Keeping trash bags in your can for collection also makes for a better “welcome home” appearance.

Please help us help you by placing your securely sealed bags in your can for collection so we can easily keep collecting and transporting your bags to the dumpster for you.

An empty can was left out

An empty trash can doesn’t make for a pleasant welcome home.  Everyone generates trash, but no one wants to see it, right?  Welcome mats and wreaths are a better way to send good vibes to you and your visitors than empty trash cans.

Please help us help you by placing your can outside no earlier than 2 hours before your collection time begins and bringing it back inside after service is complete. It will help us keep your community looking nice and neat.

Community Specific Guidelines:

Recyclable items not in a see-through bag or non-recyclable, dirty containers or food included

A see-thru bag helps us verify what’s inside the bag is recyclable so our team can make sure the right items get into the right bins for recycling. Sometimes what’s inside the bag can’t be recycled or there’s food stuck on the containers that contaminates other items so the batch can’t be recycled.

Please help us help you by placing only items that can be recycled in your area into a see-thru bag. If you’re unsure what is recyclable in your community, check with your front office or the recycling section of your municipalities’ website. Remember to reduce and reuse first, then recycle. And when in doubt – toss it out!

Food waste not in a compostable bag or mixed with trash or other non-compostable items

Did you know that food takes up more space in US landfills than anything else?1 But unlike tossing food waste into landfills, which creates greenhouse gas, composting replenishes the nutrients in soil and pulls carbon out of the atmosphere.2 That’s why we collect food waste at your community! But we can only send it to be composted if there is no trash, plastic or other non-compostable items mixed in.

Please help us help you by placing only items that can be composted into a “compostable” bag that is made to specific guidelines to break down. Note that “biodegradable” products are usually not accepted in compost streams. For more specific food-waste guidelines, check with your front office or the recycling or compost section of your municipalities’ website. Remember, when in doubt – toss it out!

Items (including cardboard) on ground, not bagged or don’t fit in can with the lid closed to meet fire-safety codes

To keep you and your community safe, we adhere to the Fire Marshal guidelines in your state, which mandates that all items, including cardboard, fit into your fire-retardant trash bin with the lid closed.

Please help us help you by filling your container with only as much trash and cardboard that can fit into your can and allow the lid to be closed. Feel free to save an extra trash bag for the next day’s collection or take it to the community dumpster or compactor if it doesn’t fit.

The Bottom Line

We’re glad to help you, and we want to keep doing it as efficiently as possible! These little adjustments help keep our team safe, your community clean, and your service reliable and convenient.
